Virtual Open Week Webinar

God of Old Testament, God of New Testament?

Reconciling the Presentation of God across the Testaments.

God of Old Testament, God of New Testament? Reconciling the Presentation of God across the Testaments.

Speaker: Dr Andrew Brown

Wednesday 2nd September

7PM - 8PM

A perennial struggle for Christian Bible readers has been to reconcile the image of God they see manifested in the person of Jesus in the Gospels and the theology of Jesus Christ in the New Testament letters with the seemingly ruthless heavenly Judge of some Old Testament passages. While any problem that consistently creates cognitive friction over the centuries is not likely to be imaginary nor easily solved, the orthodox stance that neither subordinates Christianity to the parameters of ancient Israel nor dispenses with the Old Testament and redemptive backgrounds in Israel’s covenant demonstrates that the presentation of God in the two Testaments can be reconciled. This seminar will approach the problem by comparing the relevant Old and New Testament texts.
